There are more than 20 types of
enteroviruses (types) that cause HFMD, coxsackievirus group A 16, 4, 5, 9 and
10, group B2 and 5, and enterovirus 71 are the more common pathogens of HFMD.
Coxsackievirus type A16 (CoxA16) and enterovirus 71 (EV71) are the most common pathogens.
